For 30 years, Les Architectes du Nom have been creating brands that make sense*
We won’t pull your names out of a hat, or out of a piece of software! A powerful brand (name / logo / tagline) is both relevant AND original: immediately clear on a cognitive level, appealing on an emotional level, and solid on a legal level. We validate our creations in advance from a marketing, semiological, linguistic, cultural and legal perspective. This alliance of originality and rationality will build an innovative, dynamic and enduring image for your company.

*Services
A successful brand, ready to perform
We create brand identities for products, services, companies, digital platforms and concepts, as well as taglines and logos. From a legal perspective, we carry out prior rights searches and trademark filings, both nationally and internationally, to ensure that your brand is reliable and enduring.
Over the years and across numerous projects, we have developed a robust, proven methodology designed to guarantee the relevance, creativity and validity of your future brand identity.
Our process is structured around 6 key stages to ensure the optimal development of your project:
- Defining a comprehensive and precise brief
- Creating 200 gems with our hive of creatives and their tools
- Marketing, legal and linguistic screening and validation
- Selecting a shortlist
- Creating the logo and tagline
- Legal clearance and trademark filing
A reliable and secure brand
To maximise the quality of our work and provide you with a lasting identity, we systematically validate our creations at an early stage, on several levels:
Marketing validation
Our creations are tailored to your project and fully aligned with your brief. Each one is methodically argued and contextualised to guide your choice and enable us to establish, carefully and objectively, a shortlist with you (see the Twingo analysis).
Linguistic and cultural validation
Drawing on an international network of multilingual linguists, we assess the acceptability of our creations in the target languages. This validation is carried out on several levels: pronunciation, comprehension, aesthetic perception, as well as positive or negative connotations across different cultural contexts: history, current affairs, traditions and colloquial expressions.
A narrative setting for your brand
A brand name is the key that opens onto a story — a narrative carrying values and emotions, capable of winning over your potential customers.
We therefore create stories — compelling stories — for your brands and their customers.
We draw on the values of your company and your brand, on its history or that of its founders, to shape the elements of a founding, explanatory and forward-looking narrative that expresses and illustrates the brand’s values, promises and deeper nature.
This narrative work takes place upstream in the communication process: it defines its main directions, anchors its foundations and enriches it with expressive contextual elements, as well as linguistic and imaginative material, to give substance to your communication.
A brand that communicates
We devise and create the tools for your communications across different channels:
- Website / brand pages on media and social networks (LinkedIn, Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram…)
- Brochures (print and digital)
- Corporate stationery: business cards, letterhead, and email signatures
A clear, authoritative brand
We support you in an in-depth reflection on your brand: its strengths, its weaknesses, as well as the opportunities to develop it and accelerate its growth.
We formalise its founding elements — identity, attributes, mission, values, promise and storytelling elements — in a comprehensive document designed to keep the brand on course and prevent efforts from becoming fragmented.
A coherent and powerful brand portfolio
We design and develop brand architectures for our multi-brand clients, identifying the structuring principles of their brand portfolios, clarifying hierarchies — parent brands and sub-brands, umbrella brands, range names and product names — and creating or evolving the naming elements that make these relationships clear and express their productive synergies.
Anticipating and analysing the competition
We have developed and maintain a brand observatory that enables us to carry out:
- Sector trend studies
- Competitive environment analyses
- Foresight studies to anticipate the future of your brand
Precise and controlled communication
We carry out a communication audit for your company by gathering and analysing all the discourse surrounding its brands and their competitive environments. This audit includes the study of competitors’ communications, the press — both general and specialist — institutions (associations, public authorities), and, of course, the brand’s own communication materials (advertising, information brochures, catalogues, magazines, newsletters, blogs, CEO editorials).
This factual and analytical review provides a clear picture of the current situation and helps identify areas for improvement, themes to address, opportunities to communicate, and ways to align communication tools in both content and form.
Bringing teams together around a shared project
We organise creative sessions and brainstorming workshops for our clients, bringing your teams together and, where appropriate, involving our consultants or external partners with expertise in the relevant fields.
This approach is particularly useful for internal competitions to create a brand name or tagline.

"La marque : Créer et développer son identité" par Benoit Saint-Hilaire
Today, it is no longer conceivable to expect to sell a good product without a strong brand. In the vast, sometimes discordant concert of the fifteen million brands active worldwide, it has become more necessary than ever to assert a company’s identity through a powerful and original brand.
This book first explains the concept of the brand and the elements that make it up, since understanding what a brand is — and what it encompasses — is one of the best ways to master its creation. It then examines the stages involved in building a brand identity, the various players involved, the processes put in place and the consequences one choice may have compared with another. Finally, it describes the legal process involved in protecting that creation through national or international trademark registration.
The book is complemented by a selection of 600 names, each more original and creative than the last, designed to stimulate the thinking of anyone involved in creating an identity — entrepreneurs, product managers, marketing directors, SME executives and communications directors.
*Resources
Throughout the creation process, your project director draws on a wide range of resources:
- Our original and prolific creative team
- 76 dictionaries covering languages from around the world
- 35 encyclopaedias
- 3 thesauri of concepts, keywords and interconnected ideas
- Markotek©, our database of 105,000 names and 8,000 taglines generated by ADN over 30 years
- Etynome©, our database of 3,250 Greek, Latin and Anglo-Saxon roots
- Where relevant, our proprietary name-generation software platform, Name Up!©
- For exact-match checks of signs (name, logo, tagline) as trademarks, we use the INPI databases — the French public body responsible for trademarks, designs and models, founded in 1902 — and, for in-depth prior rights searches in France, Europe and worldwide, the Compumark databases. Compumark is our partner in 135 countries and its databases list 15 million trademarks currently in force worldwide, dating back to 1946.
- To check our creations as French company names, we search the French National Trade Register databases via Infogreffe.fr. Note: company names do not fall directly within trademark law. A company name is presumed to be protected simply by virtue of its existence. The name “Renault”, for example, appears 2,375 times in the French Trade Register. Nevertheless, for legal, communication and institutional awareness, we believe it is important that you are informed of the existence of such names in the business world.
- To check our creations as domain names, we search the ICANN registers, the international organisation responsible for internet domain names and extensions.
- Finally, to gain an in-depth understanding and institutional overview of your brand identity, we conduct an online search of the shortlisted names selected with you. We use five complementary search engines — Qwant, Google, Bing, Yahoo and StartPage — to obtain a comprehensive view of the linguistic or commercial existence worldwide of the name you are considering adopting.
All our linguistic validations and assessments are carried out by native speakers of the language concerned who are also trilingual — native language, French and English. In addition to the languages spoken within the agency, we carry out or have carried out linguistic validations and assessments in the following languages:
- Main European languages, including Slavic dialects
- Croatian, Serbian and Bosnian
- Latin — we created a Latin tagline for Fenix
- Turkish, Brazilian Portuguese and Mandarin — notably for Fiat Linea
- Urdu and Farsi — for Guerlain
- Russian, Japanese — including mastery of all three writing systems — and Classical Arabic
- For any other language, we activate our network to provide reliable solutions within three weeks, with triple validation
A dedicated team + the right resources = optimal results
